What is a Nexus?

One area of your life, with its own place and purpose.

A Nexus is an area of your life with its own workspace and Executive. You might create one for Study, Work or a personal project. Keep its goals, notes, plans and conversations together, so you spend less time finding things and more time moving forward.

An Executive gives the assistant direction

An Executive is the AI assistant for that Nexus, using your selected AI model. Give it a role, tell it what matters and choose the tools it can use. Your Study Executive could help you break down an assignment; your Work Executive could help you plan a project. AI assistance requires a paid plan and a compatible connection.

Context makes the conversation useful

IKARUS supplies a compact selection of relevant workspace information with a request. It does not give the model a complete view of everything on your Mac. Include a particular note or file when the answer depends on it.

A Nexus organises your work, but it is not a security boundary between memories. Some recall can draw from other saved context. Read the data-handling details.

The workspace and the model connection are separate choices. Local files do not automatically mean local AI.

Local inference

AI on your Mac

Connect a compatible local model through Settings. Local AI processes your requests on your Mac, with no automatic cloud fallback.

Available on Local, Pro and Max. Memory, disk space, speed and tool support depend on your model and hardware.

Your provider

Bring your own API key

Connect a supported provider on any paid plan. That provider processes the request and the context sent with it, and bills you directly for usage.

Useful when you want control over your provider account. Your IKARUS subscription and provider usage are separate.

Included cloud AI

Pro or Max

Use the cloud AI allowance included in your plan, with optional prepaid top-ups. These plans also retain local AI and personal API key options.

Cloud requests send selected context to the provider. Compare plans and features.

Before choosing local AI

A model that answers questions may not support every tool IKARUS uses. Advanced planning and automations need a compatible model. Local AI can use supplied notes and conversation context, but it cannot automatically find related notes by meaning.

Local inference also does not make connected services offline. A browser or mail action still contacts the service involved. Review those permissions separately. Local AI setup notes.

Permissions

Set the permissions before it acts.

The Trust Center offers four modes for different kinds of actions. These are choices you make, not four stages every task passes through.

Observe: Blocks that kind of action and records the attempt.
Explain: Allows the action and posts a notification about it.
Ask: Blocks the action until you change the relevant Trust Center setting or do the step yourself. There is no one-click approval for this mode.
Execute: Allows the action, subject to the other permissions and limits you have set.

For a particular Nexus, review its Executive's tool access as well. An empty tool list does not mean “block everything”; use explicit restrictions when you want to limit access.

Your time should go to living, learning and building.

Planning is reviewable

A roadmap is a draft you can edit. Multi-step work has limits and can stop when it needs input or cannot continue. A model's answer still needs your judgement.

Daily work stays connected

Today draws on goals and agenda items. A priority can point back to the project it belongs to, so planning the day does not mean rebuilding every project list.

Routines are explicit

A useful sequence can become a saved workflow. Review its steps and check its results. Creating a Nexus alone does not start ongoing background work.

From the builder

I built IKARUS because too much of my day went into organising work instead of doing it: finding notes, rebuilding lists and explaining a project all over again. I wanted one place to return to, get my bearings and take the next step.

The aim is simple: give that time back to you. I'm building and testing IKARUS independently, starting with the Mac. Read the build log.
